July 15th and Comp Racers Marc Harvieux and Tim Williams will be joining Expert Racer Jason Scherman in the
Leadville Silver Rush 50mile race on Saturday July 17th.  We wish them well and best of luck to everyone racing
in Elk River on Sunday!!!  (photographer Sarah Williams will be in Colorado taking pictures at both races so will
not be able to take pictures at the MNMBS race in Elk River.  If you or your family get any pictures of our team
please burn them onto a disk and get them to Sarah at the next race so that the Flickr site can be updated.)

7/05/2010 -   A big WannaBee Welcome to our newest member Sarah Oleson to the Citizen Team!!  Sarah has joined the
series and has podiumed at both of races she has done so far - 3rd at Mankato as well as 3rd at Red Wing.
Congratulations Sarah and welcome to the team!!!

6/21/2010 -  WannaBee Racing's very own Sport Rider and Team Ride Coordinator Tara Steele wrote an article for
Freehub Magazine about the Piedmont trail in Duluth and is featured as the article of the month!
Check out the full article here

6/16/2010 -    For those of you who raced at Mt DuLac on June 13th, and for those of you who have just heard stories, you
would be proud to know that 10 WannaBee racers finished the race and of those ten 5 of them had podium
finishes!   But the item to note is the Finish TIMES.  A race that under normal conditions would have been fun
and fast took almost all of our racers over two hours to finish.  Some racers were close to 3 hours and our
"fastest" finsh was just over 1 and a half hours.

The Citizen racers were the first to arrive with a race start of 9:30.  It was heard "there will be mud" but the
racers had NO IDEA what they were getting themselves into.  As stated in the MNMBS review of the race, the
first hill of the race, normally a challenge to start the race off on a grueling foot, was actually the easiest part
of the race.  Once they hit the single-track it was mud, clay, puddles, and soup.  The Citizen course was to
be one and a half laps.  A few spots on the course, racer Sarah Williams could see her fellow team-mate Keith
Oleson and would ask if he had finished his half lap yet.  Finally at one intersection he said he had.  It
probably crossed a lot of minds to just throw their hands in the air (and their bikes on the ground) and call it
quits.  The mud was just everywhere and you often had to stop just to clean off your bike so it would move.
Very little of the course was rideable so racers were mostly walking and pushing their bikes through most of
the course.  After it was taking the Citizen racers so long (the final finisher was 3 hours and 22 minutes) the
race administrators decided to cut a lap from the Sport race - having Sport race the same as the Citizen
racers - one and a half laps.  Team Photographer Sarah Williams was still on the course when the Sport race
started and didn't finish until close to noon.  "I had many goals throughout the race but eventually settled on
not wanting to be passed by a Sport Rider!  At many points I wanted to just drop out but I decided I was
going to finish this.  I did it for my team!"  It took the final Sport Rider almost 3 hours to complete the race
as well.  Though it was later discovered that the course marshalls had moved the lap tape for the Comp and
Expert race before all of the Sport riders had come through.

The Race Director stated on MORC:  "The two big mistakes we made were closing the 1/2 loop too soon so some
later riders only did one lap in the sport race. I feel that due to how long it was taking the riders to finish that loop,
the volunteer thought that everyone had gone through. This was a preventable mistake and we apologize. I talked
with Greg of Peak Timing and the USA Cycling official and there really isn't a way to fix that error.  . . .  The second
questionable decision was to shorten the expert men's race after it had started. Obviously it's undesireable to
change the course on the fly. But when the leaders complete their first lap after almost an hour and it's slated to
be a 3 lap race, that would mean that some of the last riders could take 4+ hours. The course was changing for
the worse minute by minute and we had to try to accomodate for the deteriorating conditions."
He also said:  "I walked the trail after the races were over and it was beyond anything I could have imagined. I
personally had no idea it was as bad as it was and had no concept that it could get as bad it was.
  I feel that the
riders who feel we should have postponed or cancelled the race have a very valid argument.  The state of the
course made the event something other than a mountain bike race. . . . But I also am really encouraged by the
folks who took the absolute junk show of a trail and decided to have a blast on it. If you race bikes for 20 years
you might never experience anything that you did this weekend. It will definately be a weekend to remember for
everyone involved and I want to really thank everyone who took a shot at it.

So folks, if you were there and survived to live the tale then you were a part of a race that will probably go
down in history!   Congratulations to all our finishers!!

.....................................................................................................................................................................................................

6/11/2010 -   WannaBee Racer Sarah Williams is mentioned in the MNMBS article on the Lifetime Avalanche for her 3rd place
overall finish for the Citizen women racers.  Check out the full article here.

Commenting on the article Sarah says:  "It was my first time racing at Afton and I had always heard that if
you wanted to pick a race to skip this was the one.  After getting a call-up from my last race, I was in a prime
spot to get a good lead, and the one of the first three women to hit the first climb.  Even with a good start I
usually eventually get passed, but for this race I was able to hold my spot and the top three up that first
climb were also the top three women finishers.  I couldn't believe it!  Amy Ochs and I were going back and
forth for 2nd and 3rd.   I'd catch her on the climbs and she'd pas me on the technical descents.
Unfortunately for me the finish line is at the bottom.  Coming into the switchbacks I was in 2nd but Amy flew
past me on that last descent.  We finished 13seconds apart.  I've never been in the top three women overall
before.  I was in total shock.  A huge thanks to my team for cheering me on.  You guys are the best!"

..................................................................................................................................................................................................

6/10/2010 -  Once again WannaBee Racers represent at Lifetime Avalanche with 5 podium finishes!  Both Citizen racers
Keith Oleson and Sarah Williams claimed a podium spot for their age group and Sport racers Angella Collins,
Rob Lutterman and Reece Oleson (who has decided to jump to Sport for the rest of the season) all placed in
their age groups as well.  And this year we did not have a single DNF!!  Check out our full team results here.

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

5/24/2010 - Six WannaBee Racers finished on the Podium at the first MNMBS race of the year - Freewheel Frolic!
The Citizen racers had a very dry, sandy course in the cool temps of the morning.  Newbie Reece Oleson was
the 4th Citizen Racer to cross the finish line!   Way to go Reece!!!  He also got 1st place in his age group along
with his father Keith - also new to the Wannabee team.  And newbie Eric Plath also looked good on the course
with a 5th place finish.  WannaBee Photographer Sarah Williams finished 2nd in her age group and 7th out of
over 20 women who raced in the Citizen field - "If I had prerode more with Tara on Thursday nights I'm sure I
would have avoided little mistakes that let some pass me - especially in the sandy sections.  But getting the
only call-up and leading out the Citizen Women for the prologue was definitely a rush and a MTB racing memory
that I'll never forget.  Thanks to all my WannaBee teammates who were there to cheer me on!"

But the drama of the day was definitely the weather.  After an hour and a half rain delay the decision was
made that the Sport Race would go on.  The prologue was cut but the course remained the same.  As they
came down the first down-hill burm the brakes were on and the tires started to slide.  Mud flew everywhere as
they raced through three laps of a water-soaked course.  At one point Andrew Worth was asked if he'd make it.
His response:  I will, but not sure about my bike!  Mark Klingelhoets mentioned that he thought his bike had
picked up 10pounds of mud by the end of his race, however he still pulled off a top 10 finish in is age group.  As
did nearly all of the WannaBee Sport riders.  And three of them finished on the podium.  Home-town hero Rob
Lutterman pulled off a 2nd place finish and an impressive 6th overall.  Nick Pettis, who has dropped the
Clydesdale label for 2010, finished 3rd amongst the racers in his age group.  And team ride coordinator Tara
Steele was the 6th female rider across the line, finishing with an impressive 3rd place in her age group.

The sun came out and "dried up all the mud" for the Comp and Expert race and the conditions were nearly
perfect!  However the race directors still decided to cut out one lap.  It was a thrill to see a small "swarm" of
pink start the Expert race!  This will be our first season with an Expert Team!   Congratulations to all of the
racers who participated in the race.  We look forward to a fun and competitive season!!

01/14/2009 -  Happy New Year!!!  WannaBee Racing looks forward to all the excitement that 2010 will bring!

Did you know that our very own Samantha Bushendorf was chosen to be featured in a do>groove commercial?
Her commercial is currently on the air and tells her amazing story of weight loss and becoming a healther
person.  If you haven't seen it yet, you can hear her interview and watch the commercial by clicking here.
If you visit their website the first thing you will see is Samantha's pretty face!  Click there and you can read her
story, which specifically mentions how mountain-bike racing has affected her life!  There is even a picture of her
and husband Jeff sporting their WannaBee kits!  We are thrilled that Samantha and Jeff have been able to
achieve their goals and that mountain-bike racing is one of the choices they made to "groove their bodies!"

(oh, and if you are wondering who that spin instructor is that she mentions in her story, that would be our
very own Tim Williams - both Tim and Samantha's husband and WannaBee Racer Jeff Bushendorf teach
cycle classes at the LA Fitness in New Brighton - feel free to contact them if you'd ever like to try a class for
                       free!)

WannaBee Racing wishes YOU the best of luck in achieving your personal, fitness, and competative goals in 2010!

10/23/2009 -   Sadly, folks, the 2009 MNSCS Season is over.  But we are happy with the results of Team WannaBee and its
racers!!!  Results are in and it is official:  WannaBee Racing has claimed 2009 Citizen Team Champions
as well as 2009 Sport Team Champions!!!  This is our 3rd year in a row as Sport Team Champions and it
came down to the wire this year as the competition was fierce!  But we successfully defended our title for
the 3rd consecutive year!  The Comp Team also held on to 4th for the year.  And after victorious results at
our last race of the year, WannaBee Racing took over the 2nd Place Omnium Team spot!
                                                            Congratulations Team WannaBee!!!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to all of the WannaBee members for a great 2009 season.  Final individual results
can be found here.  Thirteen team members will proudly stand on the 2009 age class podiums!  That is
                        nearly HALF OF OUR TEAM!!!

We encourage EVERY MEMBER to come out Saturday, October 24th to the 2009 Awards Ceremony where
we will claim our Citizen Team, Sport Team, and Omnium trophies!  Please come help represent our team
and take pride in your contribution to the 2009 Season!!!

....................................................................................................................................................................................................

9/21/2009 -   WannaBee Racer Sarah Williams is quoted in the write up for Powder Monkey on the MNSCS page!  Check out
the full article here which also mentions two other WannaBee Citizen Women Tara Steele and Samantha
Bushendorf finishing strong!    Way to go ladies and Congratulations again to the 2009 Citizen Team!

.................................................................................................................................................................................................

9/21/2009 -  Sorry folks, got WAY behind on the updates.  Here are a few highlights from the last month.

      • Wisconson WORS racing once again takes the trophy at the Border Battle at White Tail Ridge in River Falls.  But WannaBee Racing brings home 5 podium medals.  Congratulations to Citizen Women, Samantha Bushendorf, Tara Steele and Yvette Harvieux - Sport Racer Nick Pettis - and Comp Racer Jason Scherman.  The Citizen class is just one race away from Clinching 1st place for the 2009 year!
      • Maplelag resort hosted the Laddies Loppet MNSCS race#9 over Labor Day weekend.  This weekend is often a highlight of the year for some racers.  While some WannaBees prefered to stay indoors, the weather was perfect for those who chose to camp for the weekend.  There were also many little honey-bees buzzing around and making new friends.  Most of the racers opted to race in the full Stage Race which included a Time Trial and Short Track race on Saturday.  WannaBee's own Samantha Bushendorf claimed 3rd place Citizen women for the weekend with husband Jeff in a close 4th for Sport.  WannaBees on the MNSCS cross country podium included Citizen Women Samantha Bushendorf and Yvette Harvieux, Sport Racer Jeff Bushendorf, and Comp Men Jason Scherman, Joe Surla and Tim Williams.  And two more honeybees joined the swarm and raced on Sunday including Mandi Tauferner who raced Sport and Carmen Scherman who entered her first MTB race EVER with the Citizen Women.  We look forward to seeing them more in 2010 . . . . right ladies??  And one major item to note is that Citizen Pulled off their 6th 1st Place Team Finish to Clinch the 2009 MNSCS Citizen Team Champions!!!   Sport also finished well with 2nd and Comp got a much needed 3rd.
      • Spirit Mountain and COGS once again hosted MNSCS Race#10 the Powder Monkey (or as some lovingly call, the Monkey Spanker).  A brutal course brought both carnage and victory for the WannaBee team.  Comp Single Speed racer Tim Williams injured his knee on what Sam would call a "Pointy Rock" - one of many on the course - in a single-track section at the top of the hill.  "I had no push" Williams commented as he gingerly pedaled his way back to the start/finish.  He was met by many a honeybee who swarmed around and cared for the injured racer.  But four WannaBees also claimed victory over the Monkey and won a spot on the podium.  Citizen Women Samantha Bushendorf, Tara Steele, and Yvette Harvieux made WannaBee proud, along with Comp Racer Scott Spoo who clinched another 3rd place finish.

Sadly enough, the season is quickly coming to a close.  Congratulations to those individuals who have clinched
their podium spots for the 2009 individual season!
And BEST OF LUCK to those who will be fighting it out for
their final points at the Single Track Escape in St Cloud on September 26th!  Hope to see EVERY Wannabee there
for the last race of the year!

8/12/2009 -  Team Results are posted and Comp Men claim their best finish yet at the Metric Auto Parts Buck Hill Birch
Bump with 2nd place!   Sport claimed third and Citizen kept their streak going by once again claiming 1st.  If
Citizen can claim one more 1st place team finish they will clinch the title for the 2009 season!!!
Congratulations to all 3 teams for excellent finishes at Buck Hill!

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

8/10/2009 -  WannaBees had a great day at the Metric Auto Parts Buck Hill Birch Bump on Sunday, August 9th.  Citizen
Racers dominated the podium with all 6 racers making it to the podium!  Congratulations to Samantha
Bushendorf, Justin Keough and Thomas Charland on their 2nd place finishes!  One exciting fact to note is that
three WannaBee women swept their podium.  Tara Steele claimed 1st, Yvette Harvieux only seconds
behind in 2nd and Sarah Williams rounded out the podium with 3rd.  Congratulations to all our Citizen Racers!
Other finishes of note were Jeff Bushendorf and Angella Colins of the Sport Class both claiming 2nd,  and Alex
Strange, Tim Williams, and newbie Joe Surla claiming 2nd, 2nd and 3rd in their Comp age groups.   A few
other fun facts from Buck: Sport Racer Nick Pettis decided to race in his age group (versus Clydesdale) and
claimed an impressive 4th place finish.  In addition, two Comp racers (Joe Surla and Jason Scherman) both
crossed the finish line in the top 10.  All in all, it was a great day for the WannaBees at Buck!

..................................................................................................................................................................................................

8/03/2009 -  Two WannaBees are mentioned in the MNSCS Race Summary for Single Track Attack! in Elk River!
Congratulations to Tara Steele and Samantha Bushendorf - Citizen Women - for finishing strong!

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

8/03/2009 -  Team results from Single Track Attack! are in and WannaBee Racing once again claimed the top price for
Citizen.  The Sport team clinched 3rd and Comp has been settling into a steady spot in 4th.  Now that we have
passed the half-way mark for the season, we hope to see our results improve as members continue to peak.
Looking forward to strong performaces at Buck Hill Birch Bump this Sunday August 6th!!

..................................................................................................................................................................................................

7/27/2009 -  Single Track Attack! at Hillside Park in Elk River was a fantastic course and super fun race.  If you missed this
one you have to try to get out to Elk River and ride it for fun sometime.  But the race itself was one for the
books.  Very well organized and marked, huge team of volunteers, lots of great swag, and T-Shirts for all who
registered.  And the WannaBees handled the course quite well.  We saw 4 on the podium for Citizen, (Justin
Keough, Samantha Bushendorf, Tara Steele, and Yvette Harvieux) 3 on the podium for Sport (Jeff Bushendorf
Angella Collins, and Nick Pettis) and 2 on the podium for Comp (newbie Gregorio Ramibez and Scott Spoo)
Also for this race we saw two Sport riders bump up to Comp which was great!  Jason Kerber and Mark
Harvieux made an impressive debut claiming 10th and 12th in their age groups.  And newbies Rob Lutterman
and Gregorio Ramibez tore it up as well.  Great Job everyone!   Hope to see even more WannaBees at Buck!

...................................................................................................................................................................................................

7/24/2009 -   WannaBee Racing sends 6 racers to the USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships at Sol Vista in
Granby Colorado!!!  Jason Scherman, John Oman, Eric LeBow, Scott Spoo, Tim Williams and Jeff Bushendorf all
decided to compete after qualifying for the race at either the end of 2008 or the start of 2009.  All six racers
competed in the Cat2 race on Friday, July 17th with family and significant others there to cheer them on.

Videos of their start can be found here, along with results and everything else Nationals:

                          http://www.cyclingdirt.org/videos/coverage/view/235359-2009-usa-mountain-bike-national-championships

The day ended with two WannaBees on the National Podium!!!  Tim Williams claimed second in his age
group with Jason Scherman close behind in 3rd.  Sport racer Jeff Bushendorf may have been a bit nervous to
be racing Cat2 along side his Comp buddies, but he pulled of an impressive finish snagging 15th.  But
"seven" seemed to be the number of the day though.  Scott Spoo and Eric LeBow both claimed 7th in their
age groups along with another MNSCS racer Trent Warner of Team Maplelag/Paramount/Grandstay.  Other
familiar faces from MNSCS included Peace Coffee Racers Bryan Rhody and Kevin Foster,  young and lively Jack
Hinkens and elite racer Jesse Reints of Penn Cycle/Nature Valley, father son duo from Maplelag Jay and Jake
Richards, and local ladies Jenna Rinehart and Kyia Anderson to name a few.

Jay has a great write up of the race, including more locals here

                                           http://www.skinnyski.com/racing/display.asp?Id=16325

The whole race weekend was quite the memorable experience.  Some said it felt just like a local race with
people cheering and taking pictures.  With all six racers dressed in their Pink Kits they were hard to miss!
And spectators thoughout the course were heard cheering "Go WannaBee!" or "Go Minnesota!"  (thanks to
one of our sponsors who has the state of MN as part of their logo on our Left Sleeve!)  The fans were great
the racers were great, and the Pros were great!   Many were very approachable and were willing to stop
for pictures or the occasional "can you sign my bike (or tank top)"  Olympians posed for pics like it was no
problem.  Olympian Todd Wells, who had an upsetting finish due to a mechanical, was still willing to chat
about upcoming races as well as "talk bike" with our WannaBees.   His fellow Olympian Mary McConneloug
was not even fazed when WannaBee photographer Sarah Williams asked for a pic - though no one else
around seemed to even recognize her or know who she was.  And it was just crazy seeing mtb celebs such
as Allison Dunlap and Adam Craig just chatting with racers or riding a practice lap on the Short Track.  This
being a first National race for WannaBee Racing it was all so much to take in!

And I believe talk has already started about a return in 2010.  Especially for Comp Racer John Oman who was
unable to finish the race due to a flat way out in the back section.  He'll be racing the rest of the season
with "top 10" in the front of his mind as he hopes to qualify for the 2010 race!  And we hope to see even

a spot on the podium - Samantha Bushendorf, newbie Tara Steele, and Yvette Harvieux.  As well as Justin
Keough for Citizen Men.  Sport once again saw Jeff Bushendorf and Nick Pettis on the podium.  And Comp
once again saw Alex Strange as well as Tim Williams and Jason Scherman - back from Mankato ready to race!
As a team we once again placed 1st for Citizen (thanks Ladies!) and 1st for Sport and 4th for Comp.

6/29/2009 -  WannaBee racer Jason Scherman is home safe and sound after a dangerous spill on Quick Release during
the second lap of the Comp Race at Bluff Rider's Charge in Mankato.   Below is what he posted on MORC:

"I'd like to thank all of those who helped me out after my accident on the QR section at Kato. As a
precautionary measure, the EMT decided to take me to have some neck x-rays done, and those all
                                came back OK.

Also, thanks to the riders for being considerate of me and the helpers in the area through this section.
                                I hope it didn't affect anyone's race.

Especially, thanks to the mtb patrol rep, Tom Warner and Sarah Williams for helping me out and
sticking with me until the EMT's arrived, and getting my gear back to my family.

That section has never been a problem for me, but this time I guess things didn't commit so well when
                                I went down it.

Other than some soreness from the long ride down the hill, I'm doing ok!"

A huge "THANKS" from Team WannaBee to all of the racers who heeded the instructions of those on the
trail instructing people to walk down the hill.  We truly appreciate that you put the safety of our rider above
your own race standing.  Thanks also to those who went out of their way to spread the word to the Bike
Patrol team, as well as other WannaBee team memebers, that a rider was down.  Your thoughfulness and
courtesy truly exemplified how mountain-bikers look out for their own.  And we are so glad that Jason is ok

6/22/2009 -  The Pink Jerseys came out for Dirt Spanker!  We had two women race Citizen (Yvette Harvieux and WannaBee
wife Sam Bushendorf).  In addition WannaBee wife Carmen Scherman was sporting the Pink in support of our
women racers.  Team photographer Sarah Williams, also in Pink, got many comments from both racers and
spectators loving the new fashions.  But the "big surprise" of the day was that Comp Men Jason Scherman,
John Oman, and Tim Williams all RACED in Pink as well  (man were they easy to spot! - check out the MNSCS
site under Series Photos for Dirt Spanker - Dana snagged a pic of our boys in the parking lot!)  And the colors
drew the attention we were hoping for!  A big WELCOME to our newest member Tara Steele - Citizen Women!
We are excited to see more women among the Swarm.  A huge THANKS to Sport Racer Angella Collins for
the idea and to Citizen Racer Yvette Harvieux for all her hard work in re-designing the kits.  Wear 'em proud!

6/21/2009 -  A huge Congratulations to our Citizen Team and Sport Team for placing 1st on the Team Standings for Dirt
Spanker!   A major contirbuting factor was the great turn out by our women racers.  Great Job Ladies!!  And
even though it was a tough course, we survived without a single DNF (unlike Afton which gave many racers
trouble).  Comp Men finished in the #4 spot and WannaBee Racing saw 6 racers on the podium for their age
group.  Congratulations to all of our racers!!!

....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Bushendorf and Alex Strange along wtih Nick Pettis)  Afton was tough for many racers - as a team we had

season!  Hope to see you all in Duluth on Sunday, June 14th for Dirt Spanker!
