Who we are:
WannaBeeRacing is a team of competitive mountain bike racers in Minnesota. Our races are predominantly part of the
MNMBS (Minnesota Mountain Bike Series), but our racers have also competed in the
Leadville 100,
Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival, 24 Hour races and
Ironman triathlons to name a few. We started small but our team has grown and we have continued to build deeper friendships.
How we started:
In 2007, when
MNMBS (then MNSCS) announced that they were going to have team racing, a few racing friends (the WannaBee founders) decided to create their own team. WannaBee Racing was born. By the end of the 2007 season, WannaBee Racing had seven members but no sponsor. But even without a sponsor the team of riding-friends became
2007 Sports Class Team State Champions. And on an individual basis, three WannaBee racers made it to the 2007 Podium for their class.
In 2008 the team grew to 16 members, and ten
sponsors offerered support to the WannaBee Racing Team. The Sport Men defended their 2007 title and once again were named
MNSCS 2008 Team Champions. And even though the Comp team was small, they finished 2008 in the 5th spot.
By 2009 the team had grown to 36 members, including 5 women. A Citizen team was formed in 2009 and with the help of a few new women racers WannaBee Racing claimed their first ever title of
Citizen Team Champions. It came down to the final race of the year but WannaBee Racing proudly held their title of
Sport Team Champions for the 3rd year in a row and thus remain undefeated. The Comp team also finished strong with 4th place in 2009. And as a team WannaBee Racing claimed 2nd place in the MNSCS Team Omnium Scoring.
At the start of the 2010 season WannaBee Racing will officially have a full team in all 4 MNMBS racing categories (Citizen, Sport, Comp and Expert).
We are always looking and
welcoming new members.
What our name means:
Definition: A wannabe (sometimes spelled wannabee) is a person who likes to imitate, or even wishes to be, another (Pro-Racer), but cannot achieve it due to physical, psychological, financial, cultural, political, religious, or mental limitations.
Our Goals:
To defend our current title of
MNMBS Sport Class State Team Champions as well as Citizen Class Team Champions and to win the title of Comp Champions in 2010. We also want to defend our 2nd place standing for the
Omnium Scoring in 2010 while striving for the goal of 2010 Omnium Team Champions.
